Overview:

Abstract: This workshop on Machine Learning-Assisted Design and Optimization of Antennas for Space Systems introduces emerging ML-driven approaches for next-generation antenna engineering. It begins with an overview of key machine learning algorithms and their relevance to electromagnetic design problems. Participants will explore representative antenna configurations and specimen designs tailored for space applications. The session further covers optimization techniques, including evolutionary and ML-based strategies, for enhancing antenna performance. Sample design problems will be discussed to demonstrate practical implementation and challenges. A short hands-on session will provide exposure to basic ML-assisted design workflows. The workshop aims to equip participants with both conceptual understanding and practical insights for applying ML in antenna design.

Speaker Biographies

Ravi Kumar Arya

Ravi Kumar Arya is the Director of the Xiangshan 5G/6G Laboratory at the Zhongshan Institute of Changchun University of Science and Technology (ZICUST) in China. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, USA, under the supervision of Prof. Raj Mittra. He completed his M.Tech in RF and Microwave Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, advised by Prof. Ramesh Garg, and holds a B.Tech from Delhi Technological University, India.

Dr. Arya’s career spans both industry and academia, having held roles at organizations including ECIL (India), C-DOT (India), Ansys Inc. (USA), and ALL.SPACE (USA), along with academic appointments at NIT Delhi and JNU in India. He currently serves as an Editor on the Editorial Board of the IETE Journal of Research. Dr. Arya has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications, seven book chapters, and four patents. His research focuses on antenna design, computational electromagnetics, 3D modeling, machine learning applications in electromagnetics, and RF system modeling.
